Faces of Pee Dee

The widow of his deceased fellow worker touched Henry’s heart.

She was suffering and in need of financial help. Henry wanted to do something. In 1984 he started “We Care.” Its purpose was to help people who were out sick from the paper mill here in Florence. The effort helped many people. In 1993 the name was changed to “Cooks for Christ.”

“Cooks for Christ” has served people of the Pee Dee since then and cooks 10-12 times each year to help those in need. Henry and up to 400 volunteers donate their time. All of the funds go to help others.

When I met Henry he was planning to serve 7,200 meals. He used over 2,000 lbs. of chicken and 1,600 lbs. of rice. It took 2 days to prepare and all proceeds went to a person in need. Henry saw an opportunity and his faith led him to help others. He makes a difference.
